About the studio

Osthir Studio helps you turn ideas into well-made physical products, get them ready for manufacturing, and learn the practical skills behind both.

What we can do for you

You can buy the furniture, lighting and objects we design and make in our studio. You can bring us your own product idea, or a design that costs too much to manufacture, and we will help you develop it. And you can join a hands-on workshop to learn product design, CAD, prototyping and manufacturing yourself.

The three are connected. Our own products are where we test ideas and methods. Client projects keep our engineering honest. Helping people learn makes us explain every decision clearly.

How we work with you

We start with your problem, not with a style. We sketch, model and build, usually several times, and show you each step. We talk to fabricators and suppliers early, because a design that cannot be made well at a sensible cost is not finished.

We document the process as we go, including the versions that did not work. You will find those stories throughout this site.

Where we are

The studio is in Dhaka, Bangladesh. We work with clients across the country and, for design and engineering projects, internationally.

What you can expect

Purposeful design
Every part has to earn its place, so what you get is simpler to use and easier to live with.
Practical engineering
Ideas are tested on the bench, not only on screen, so they work when they reach you.
Made to be made
We think about the workshop and the supplier from the first sketch, which keeps your costs and surprises down.
Better with every version
You see prototypes early and often, so the final result is one you are sure of.
Open about the process
You see what worked, what didn't and why. No black boxes.

From idea to object

The steps every project goes through, and the order every story on this site follows.

  1. ProblemWhat needs solving, for whom, and within what limits.
  2. IdeaSketches and quick models to compare directions.
  3. Design decisionsChoosing a direction, and explaining why.
  4. EngineeringStructure, materials, tolerances and assembly.
  5. PrototypeBuild it, test it, find what to improve.
  6. OutcomeThe finished product and how it performs.
  7. LessonsWhat we would do differently next time.

Let's make something together.
