The problem
Can a stool be rigid, repairable and flat-packed without a single screw?
Inspiration and concept
Through-tenons locked with tapered wedges, a joint used in traditional workbenches.
Sketches, prototypes and iterations
Four prototypes so far. The current version holds 150 kg but the wedges loosen after a few weeks of daily use.
Challenges and lessons
We are now testing wedge angles and timber moisture content to stop the loosening. This page will be updated as the experiment continues.
